Srinagar May 31: J&K Circle of Department of Posts has decided to recruit around 300 youth from Jammu and Kashmir within three months.
Addressing a press conference here, Chief Post Master General, J&K Circle, John Samuel said “287 persons will be recruited from all over state as Grameen Dak Sewaks to strength the village post office network in the state.”
“We are going to recruit a large number of youth from J&K. People here have responded very positively to the post office services, particularly in rural areas. There has been 40 percent growth on this account in the state,” Samuel said.
The Department, he said, has decided to recruit 113 candidates in Kashmir Division. “87 candidates will be employed in Srinagar, Anantnag, Shopian Kulgam and Kulgam and 26 candidates will be selected in Baramulla, Kupwara and Bandipora where as 13 candidates will be recruited from Ladakh,” he said.
The Department has also decided to recruit 161 candidates from Jammu region. “ 61 candidates will be selected from Jammu, Sambha and Kathua regions, 81 from Udampur, Doda and Kashtiwar, and 19 from Rajouri and Poonch regions,” Samuel said.
He said that 10th class qualification would be the criteria of selections. “There will be no interview. It will be transparent selection based on 10th class marks of candidates,” he said.
The candidates, Samuel said, will be paid a monthly salary of Rs 8,000 for five hours working.
The Department of Posts has also decided to give 5 percent quota to sportsmen. “This has been done for the first time,” Samuel said. “14 people will be selected under sports quota. These will particularly be football players who should have played at state-level at least.”
Samuel also said that 8 percent seats would be reserved for physically challenged. “No one in the past 10 years has been recruited in sports or physically challenged quota. But we will give them proper representation this time,” he said.
