Shamima Firdous distributes cheques among Habba Kadal widows
Srinagar, May 31: The Chairperson, State Women’s Commission and MLA Habba Kadal, Shamima Firdous on Thursday distributed National Family Benefit Scheme (NFBS) cheques worth Rs 3.90 lakh among widows of Habba Kadal constituency at a ‘cheque distribution cum awareness camp’ held here. The camp was organized by Social Welfare Department.
Speaking on the occasion, Shamima Firdous said, “Government puts every effort to provide succor to the people living in distress and poverty.”
She stressed upon the officers of Social Welfare Department to ensure timely payment of pension to the poor and needy. “Physically challenged, old aged persons and widows deserve our sympathy as such it was the duty of concerned officers to be friendly while dealing with such persons,” he added.
She called upon the officers to intensify the awareness programme of various welfare schemes among people. She also urged people to come forward and take benefits of the schemes launched by the Government.
On the occasion, she was informed that the department of Social Welfare have provided Rs. 10.55 crore among 32,782 beneficiaries under various pension schemes during last financial year which include Rs. 5.17 crore given to 21,580 beneficiaries under Integrated Social Security Scheme(ISSS) and Rs. 2.50 crore provided to 5,202 beneficiaries under Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme(IGNOAPS).
She was also informed that during 2011-12 Rs. 2.36 crore have been provided to 13,500 students as scholarship under various State and Centrally sponsored schemes.
