Udhampur, June 10: Police here have launched a special drive against the criminals and notorious elements wanted in several cases including murder, rape and decoity.
 An official spokesman said that at least eight criminals wanted in various cases were arrested during the last 72 hours from across the district.
 He said that the arrested persons included five accused who were wanted from more than four years after a local youth Varinder Singh alias Vicky was killed.
 The arrested persons have been identified as Sushant Sharma S/o Hem Raj R/o  Ward No Subhash Nagar, Udhampur, Sumit Singh S/o Surinder Singh R/o Housing Colony, Udhampur, Sunil Kumar alias Nitu S/o Krishan Lal R/o Domail Near Patrol Pump Udhampur, Muhammad Maqsood Chandail (Constable No. 626/IR 10th Bn. then posted at STF Picket Dandi Bhaderwah) S/o Muhamamd Sharief R/o Gangera Udhampur  and Zuber Ahmed Chandail S/o Muhammad Hussain R/o Gangeda.
 Similarly,  three absconders were arrested in Ramnagar. They were wanted in separate cases for last 16 to 19 years.
