Vohra pays tributes to Afzal Beg
Srinagar, June 10: Governor N N Vohra has paid rich tributes to Mirza Muhammad Afzal Beg, former Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, on his whose 30th death anniversary being observed on 11th June 2012.
In his message, Governor said Beg was known as an able administrator, parliamentarian, legal luminary and a visionary politician.
“As Sheikh Sahib's Revenue Minister, Beg Sahab was the person behind the historic land reforms which were brought about that time. His contributions towards the speedy development of the state are remembered by the people of J&K,” Vohra said.
He said Beg would perhaps be remembered most for the maturity with which he conducted the parleys with Shri Parthasarthy, the representative of the Union Government, in the mid 1970s. “The Beg-Parthasarthy understanding comprises an important chapter in the evolution of Delhi-JK relations,” he said and added that the best way to remember Beg Sahab would be to work collectively for making Jammu and Kashmir a frontline state of the country.
