MCI norms
GMC Srinagar and its associated hospitals of late have attracted media attention highlighting deficiencies at G.B Panth, deficiency of faculty positions, MCI de-recognition and recruitments under academic arrangements. The government and critics should not target the doctors. Believe in the capabilities of faculty of paediatrics to enable them to deliver their best as they have rich experience. Prior to year 2010 Faculty strength at GMC Srinagar was only 240. On the pressing demand of MFA, government created 267 faculty positions, which include nine faculty posts for institute of traumatology, 85 for allied 17 super specialities and remaining 174 for existing non clinical and clinical specialities of GMC, Srinagar. Recently government promoted nine faculty members as professors, 22 as associate professors and 32 as assistant professors at GMC Srinagar, thus enhancing strength of professors to 13, associate professors to 39, assistant professors to 50 and lecturers to 99. It is time that government implements MCI norms for faculty positions, promotions and service.
Dr Sajad Majid Qazi
General Secretary, MFA
