Dukan-e-Sangeen complains of messy lanes, drains

SYED IMRAN ALI HAMDANI

Srinagar, June 12: The residents of Dukan-e-Sangeen, Fateh Kadal in Shaher-e-Khaas are up in arms against the authorities for “failing to repair the drains and by-lanes in the area”.
A delegation from the area told Greater Kashmir the drains and by-lanes in the area are in a dilapidated condition for the past over a decade while the Srinagar Municipal Corporation and other concerned authorities  have failed to provide them respite.
“Dilapidated by-lanes lead to waterlogging. During rains, the water accumulates in the potholes…We face inconvenience in moving out of our houses,” the locals said.
“Pedestrians, especially schoolchildren and aged often slip on the uneven lanes,” they added.
“Besides,” they said, “The sewage doesn’t drain properly but overflows.”
“The sewage is seeping in the basement of the residential houses causing dampness,” they added.
The residents appealed to the local MLA and the SMC Commissioner Dr GN Qasba to look into the matter.
