Inland Water Transport On River Jhelum

Srinagar, June 13: Valley-based Kashmir Motors has secured the contract of inland water transport on river Jhelum.
 The Irrigation and Flood Control Department had floated tenders seeking bids for providing boats and logistic support for inland water transport.
 Ufair Ajaz, Head (Marketing and Development), Kashmir Motors confirmed to Greater Kashmir that the firm has been allotted the contract for supplying boats for inland water transport from Pantha Chowk to Chattabal.
 “In the initial stage we have arranged five boats with Honda Marine outboard engines,” he said.
  “Honda marines have the best engines and are fuel efficient,” Ufair said.
 Ufair said that team of Honda Marine are personally monitoring the functioning of engines and also conducted test drives.
 Dr M H Shah, Consultant of Kashmir Motors, authorized dealers of Honda in the Valley, said : “Introduction of inland water transport is a good move. It will not only reduce the traffic mess, but would also attract tourists.”
 Koji Tanaka, Vice President, Honda Power products said: “We have personally checked the performance of engines. Our engine are cost efficient, powerful and economical.”
