Poonch, June 14: There was no let up today in the intermittent firing from across the border at Indian posts along the Line of Control (LoC) in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district.
A defence spokesman said that Pak troops indulged in unprovoked and heavy arms firing on the post along LoC in Krishna Ghati sector since 2 PM yesterday leaving a soldier dead and three others injured.
This is the second incident of ceasefire violation this week.
The spokesman said Pakistani troops opened fire at Indian troops from a position opposite Mendhar Sector using automatic weapons, resulting in serious injury to an soldier who later succumbed to his injury.
"The firing was escalated from other Pakistani posts, using rockets and heavy automatics, to prevent evacuation of the injured soldier," he said.
Meanwhile, two of the injured have been airlifted to the Command Hospital in Udhampur while one of the injured has been shifted to Poonch hospital.
The defence spokesman said while Indian troops de-escalated the situation by 5 PM yesterday and stopped firing, Pakistani troops continued intermittent Mortar and automatic fire.
Mortar and automatic fire by Pakistani troops continued till late afternoon and the situation was tense, but under control, he said.
A message was passed through hotline to Pakistan to exercise restraint for de-escalating the situation. However, Pakistan troops continued firing on Indian posts. In response, Indian troops carried out controlled and effective retaliation, he added.
