Kaigam faces water shortage
ASMAT KHAN
Kaigam, (Pulwama) June 14: Residents of this south Kashmir village are facing acute shortage of drinking water.
“Tap water is not fit for drinking purpose. We have apprised the concerned authorities about the problems we are facing but till date they haven’t paid any heed towards our plight,” residents said. They said the PHE department had laid down the water pipes long ago. “These pipes have developed holes at many places and water gets leaked. Due to this leakage lot of water is wasted,” residents added.
They said there is a water tank in the adjacent village which has the capacity to provide water to at least five villages but officials of the concerned department don’t pay any attention to this aspect. “People living in upper reaches use the water for irrigation purposes which ultimately hampers the water supply to the people living in the low lying areas," they said
“We demand that concerned authorities should provide us with a separate water pipeline,” residents said.
