After 2 decades, SMC cleans Koh-e-Maran foothills

Devi Angan temple management hails endeavor

Srinagar, June 15: At least three truckloads of garbage, mostly banned polythene bags, were removed from the foothills of Koh-e-Maran in the surroundings of a famous Devi Angan Temple there.
 The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) officials admitted that huge piles of garbage had mounted in the area because the civic body couldn’t give much attention.
 Today some 200 SafaiWalas went on for a massive drive uphill. The temple devotees said they had complained to the SMC Commissioner Dr GN Qasba that the area was in a mess for several years, prompting the civic body to instantly start the sanitation drive.
 The representatives of temple management, including Sanjay Sahaf were present on the occasion while Dr Qasba personally inspected the drive. The temple management hailed the SMC endeavor.
 Meanwhile the SMC Chief Sanitation Officer Manzoor Ahmed Turray said managements of various religious places should apprize the civic body if garbage was lying unattended in their vicinity.
 “Similar drives will be conducted there as well,” Turray said.
