Irrigation department starts desilting of Marvel canal

Wathoora (Budgam): The Irrigation department has taken up the de silting  work of Marvel Irrigation canal here in central Kashmir.  
 Greater Kashmir in its May 22 edition had carried a detailed story about residents facing hardships due to government not de silting the canal. Soon after the news report appeared the department swung into action and started the work and it would be completed within a few days.   
 Pertinently, scores of farmers had protested against the Irrigation department for not undertaking de silting work on 7 kilometer long Marvel Irrigation canal which is the main source of irrigation for almost 1000 hectares of agricultural land in scores of villages in Chadoora and Budgam areas and a few villages of Pulwama district.
 The Chief Engineer Irrigation Muzaffar Lanker intervened visited the spot along with Assistant Executive Engineer Irrigation sub division Bugaam , Chadoora Abdul Rashid and the department started work on the canal.
 “We are highly thankful to Greater Kashmir for highlighting the problems faced by us,” residents said. They thanked Irrigation department for taking up the work.
