Malik concerned over detainees’ plight in Amphala, Kote Balwal jails
Srinagar, June 15: The chairman of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front Muhammad Yasin Malik on Friday expressed serious concern over the plight of political detainees in all jails in general and Kote Balwal and Amphala Jails in particular.
“The political detainees in Amphala jail and Kote Balwal jail, Jammu, are being subjected to worst persecutions,” said Malik, addressing a public meeting at Jenab Sahab, Soura, here, terming it sheer violation of Geneva Convention.
He appealed to the International Red Cross and other human rights organizations for immediate intervention into the matter.
Malik said various movements are going on in the world but at every place excepting Kashmir the detainees and injured are given “inhumane treatment”. “Amphala and Kote Balwal jails have beaten all the records in subjecting the political detainees to torture. The detainees in these jails are forced to parade naked and beaten to pulp with lathis and kicks. They are forced to do things that are against the religious faith,” alleged Malik, adding that the detainees in these jails are served substandard food and denied medical aid.
Malik said such repressive measures by the government could not demoralize the Kashmiris and prevent them from pursuing their cherished cause of freedom. He reiterated the pledge to continue struggle “till the objective of independent Kashmir is completely achieved.”
