Toilet blocks near Charar-e-Sharief shrine defunct for 10 years

Devotees face difficulties

Charar-e-Sharief (Budgam): Devotees visiting the famous shrine of Sheikh Noorudin Wali (RA) here in central Kashmir are facing immense problems as the main toilet block comprising at least ten toilets is totally defunct for past ten years.
Locals said the foundation of these washrooms is very weak which have led to the few toilets collapsing. “The toilet block was constructed with the aim to ensure that devotees coming to Charar-e-Sharief do not face any difficulty. This block remained functional for only a year and after that it was locked,” they added.
Heaps of garbage has been dumped near the toilet block. “Despite repeated reminders to the concerned officials nothing has been done to clear the garbage,” they said.
“On one hand Government claims that it is spending crores for the development of the Charar-e- Sharief town but the fact is that there is no accountability of the funds,” they added.

PROJECT OFFICER SPEAKS
When contacted Bashir Ahmad  Project Officer Charar-e-Sharief development project (under housing department) said, “ I have joined  recently. I will look into the matter and take necessary action for repairing the toilet block near the shrine.”
“It is the responsibility of the locals also to keep the toilet block and its surrounding area clean as we have observed that locals throw all kinds of waste material in this area” he added.
