Srinagar, June 17: Muhammad Shafi Wani, father of GK Senior Editor Arif Shafi Wani, passed away on Sunday morning after protracted illness. He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.
Muhammad Shafi Wani son of Late Haji Ghulam Qadir Wani of Khonakhan Dalgate was working as Carpet Training Officer in the Office of Development Commissioner (Handicrafts FAC Srinagar) Ministry of Textiles Government of India.
He was admitted at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura two weeks ago where he breathed his last this morning.
Hundreds of people attended the Nimaaz-e-Jinaaza of the deceased and he was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard at Malteng Dalgate.
According to the family, the Chaharum of Muhammad Shafi Wani would be observed on Wednesday, June 20 and the congregational Fateh-a-Khawani would be held at his ancestral graveyard at Malteng at 10.00 am.
Greater Kashmir and Kashmir Uzma staff held a condolence meeting under the chairmanship of, Editor-in-Chief Fayaz Ahmad Kaloo, wherein the participants expressed profound grief and sorrow over the demise. They expressed solidarity with the bereaved family and prayed for peace to the departed soul.
Meanwhile, a delegation of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) led by its chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik visited Arif’s residence and prayed for peace to the departed soul and expressed sympathies with the bereaved family.
Senior Advocate Zaffar Shah also visited Arif’s residence and sympathized with the bereaved family.
Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir also expressed profound grief over the demise of Muhammad Shafi Wani. The spokesman of the party Dr G M Ganai said that Muhammad Shafi Wani was a noble soul.
National Front chairman, Nayeem Ahmad Khan and JKLF (Haqeeqi) chairman Javaid Ahmad Mir expressed their sympathies with the bereaved family.
National Conference spokesman, Tanvir Sadiq, on behalf of the party, expressed grief and sorrow over the demise and expressed solidarity with the bereaved family. He prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
Kashmir Journalist Corp has condoled the demise and has prayed for peace to the departed soul. Arif Shafi Wani is the founder member of the Corp.
A condolence meeting on the demise of the Muhammad Shafi Wani was held at the J&K Young Journalists Association Office at Lal Chowk here under the chairmanship of Ajaz War. Ajaz expressed his profound sorrow and grief over the demise.
The members including vice-president, General Secretary, Chief Spokesperson, Organizer, Treasurer, Publicity in charge and others expressed their heartfelt condolences and sympathy with the bereaved family and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
Suhail Inamullah, Chairman, JKATUF Rehbar-i-Ziraat Council has also expressed heartfelt condolences with Wani family.
 Executive Director of J&K Voluntary Health Association A M Mir (IAS Retd) condoled the sad demise and expressed sympathies with the bereaved family.
