Illicit food grains, timber seized: Police

Srinagar, June 1: Police on Friday claimed to have seized huge stocks of illicit sugar, floor and timber from Shaher-e-Khaas, even as the accused, a mill owner was nabbed.
Superintendent of Police north City, Tahir Saleem Khan said the recovery was made acting on a tip off.
He said the seizure included forty bags of sugar, twenty quintals of floor and five quintals of rice adding that the catch was made from a mill at Malik Sahib Safa Kadal.
“The owner of the mill used to get sugar and floor from CAPD meant for government supply and illegally sold it in open markets,” he added.
A FIR Vide No 54/2012/409 RPC 3/7 EC Act has been registered.
Besides, in the wee hours during a surprise Naka near Sakidafar Chowk police seized a Maruti car laden with illicit timber while the driver managed to flee in the dark, police said.
A case has been filed vide FIR No 50/2012 under section 379 RPC. 6 F Act and a manhunt has been launched to nab the accused driver.
