KP's Dilemma

ADARSH AJIT

After adopting the resolution in its Global Meet of Kashmiri Pandits in March, another shift took place in the Kashmiri Pandit politics in exile. Some prominent Kashmiri Pandits, and some affiliate members of All India Kashmiri Samaj (AIKS) went a step further. They went to Kashmir and met Syed Ali Shah Geelani, the firebrand Hurriyat leader whose writ still runs large in the valley. But they had to face sharp criticism from Panun Kashmir.
In this era, no doubt the gun culture and fundamentalist approach attract attention but at the end of the day one has to talk and find the solutions. Geelani is neither Government of India nor he is the state government. But why should we feel shy in accepting that Geelani has still command on the pulse of the Kashmiri Muslims. The bandh call given by Geelani on 30-05-2012 confirms that Geelni has a tight grip on the Kashmir politics. And the fact is that it was separatist camp on whose commands the unfortunate exodus of Kashmiri Pandits occurred.
Anyway, the leaders of Kashmiri Pandits who met Geelani should have thought earlier about the repercussions and sharp criticism, they faced after the meet. When you are firm in your resolve to meet someone why you shy away and live in hibernation? Have you committed any wrong? If yes then why? If no, then why fear? Why you have not come openly to rebut your critics and unfold your policy and the fruits you are expecting from Geelani’s meet.
During the agitation on Amarnath land row Panun Kashmir criticized the role of Governor N N Vohra. They were all against him. But it is not far away when Panun Kashmir met Shri N N Vohra for highlighting the problems of Kashmiri Pandits. Why? Panun Kashmir also met General Musharaf on his visit to India when he was the President of Pakistan. Why? Similarly All India Kashmiri Samaj has reportedly shunted its woman leader out because she had met Geelani. Why?
It is painful to note that some persons or organizations have a dual character. One cannot keep the feet on two pedals and especially when you are talking of a community. In Global Meet of Kashmiri Pandits some individuals and organizations were of the belief that Pandits be settled in twin city having composite culture. If on one hand you believe Kashmiriat and secularism should be revived and Muslims and Pandits should live together in twin city how then you can criticize the persons who met Geelani?
The dualism, hypocrisy and egoism are the characters that have always marred the Kashmiri Pandit cause. And that is why we suffer. Leadership has proved ineffective and above all common Kashmiri Pandit has lost faith in its intellectually enlightened leadership.
