18 CRPF companies to guard highway

Jammu, June 19: At least 18 companies of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) will be deployed from Lakhapur to Banihal to guard the highway during the ensuing Amarnath Yatra.
“We have made all the necessary arrangements for smooth conduct of the yatra and around 18 companies will be deployed along the highway from Lakhanpur to Banihal for security of the pilgrims,” Inspector General of CRPF, Jammu, Gurinderjeet Singh told media persons after reviewing the final arrangements for the pilgrimage in a joint meeting held with police and other security agencies, here today.
He further said that besides security, CRPF was also making arrangements like free langer, bedding, tents and other facilities for the pilgrims along highway.
Inspector General of Police Dilbagh Singh said that the meeting took a review of the security arrangements being made with regard to the ensuing pilgrimage. “We don’t have any intelligence input regarding any threat militant threat but we are well prepared and equipped to meet any eventuality,” Singh said.
He said that interrogation of a person who had recently crossed to Indian side in tehsil Sunderbani of district Poonch has revealed that around 500 militants were getting “refresher course in training camps functional in Pakistan”.
“Whenever the refresher course of militants will be completed, they will definitely try to intrude into this side but we are ready to face any challenge” Singh said.
