BJP to launch agitation against water, power crises
GK NEWS NETWORK
Jammu, June 19: Bhartiya Janta Party today announced a 'Jail Bharo' agitation from June 22 to protest against the power and water crises in Jammu region, especially in the winter capital of the state, where people are facing tremendous hardships amid scorching heat.
"We will launch a "Jail Bharo Aandolan" to press for smooth power supply to the Jammu region which is facing major power and water crises since the government shifted its capital city to Srinagar in Kashmir", BJP MLA and former state President Ashok Khajuria told reporters here.
Expressing resentment against the ruling coalition government Khajuria said, “The administration which is not being able to provide basic facilities to its masses has no right to be at the helm. It seems that after the move of the darbar to Srinagar, the coalition government has diverted the electricity of Jammu to Srinagar”.
He further said, “The people are being made to suffer on account of unscheduled and long power cuts. The supply of drinking water is not regular. People are protesting, sitting on dharnas against PHE and PDD with their grievances but the administration has adopted adamant attitude showing no concern towards public grievances.
Khajuria was part of a protest demonstration organized by the party, here today, against the erratic power and water supply in the city.
The party activist assembled at Parade and staged a sit-in outside the office of Power Development Department (PDD) demanding streamlining of electricity supply.
Protesters were shouting slogans against the Power Development Department (PDD) Public Health Engineering Department (PHE) and State Government.
Protesters said, “It was inhuman of the state government to curtail the electricity and water supply in this scorching weather”.
