Renewed Migrant Package On Agenda

Srinagar, June 19: The state cabinet is all set to make it mandatory for fresh recruits in government from Reserved Backward Areas and Line of Actual Control (LAC) to serve their respective areas for first seven years of service.
The cabinet which would meet under the chairmanship of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah here tomorrow is likely to recommend to the government of India to enhance monetary package from Rs 7.5 lakh to Rs 20 lakh for migrants Pandits who wish to return to Kashmir and construct their houses.
Sources told Greater Kashmir that earlier the condition for the RBA candidates and those from LAC category to serve for seven years in their respective areas was limited only to Health Department.
The cabinet would also discuss setting this condition for the newly appointed candidates from these two categories for all the government departments. “It is on the agenda and government is likely to clear it,” sources said.
Sources said the cabinet agenda includes approval to number of sops for migrant Pandits.
The cabinet would approve recommending to the Government of India for enhancing relief package to the migrants from the present Rs 7.5 lakh to Rs 20 lakh for construction of houses. Besides, for Pandits who have already returned to the valley and are putting up in transit camps, the allotment of space would be enhanced from 240 sft to 515 sft. It is likely to approve monthly cash assistance to the Pandits from present Rs 5000 to Rs 10000.
Sources said the GoI had already indicated to the state to recommend for the relief package to the Pandits. “The cabinet will approve all the items regarding relief to Pandits in tomorrow’s meeting,” sources said.
Besides the newly created eight districts- four each in Kashmir and Jammu- are likely to get Special Additional Mobile Magistrates as the cabinet would approve the same.
The cabinet would also give its nod to creation of new wing- Maintenance and Work- in Tourism Department, Jammu. Six new posts would be sanctioned for it.
