Srinagar, June 20: Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Ali Muhammad Sagar Wednesday said a comprehensive plan for renovation and beautification of the historic Khankah-e-Moulla has been formulated in a bid to preserve the cultural heritage of the state.
Sagar divulged this at a high-level meeting that he chaired here today on the issue. The meeting was attended by Vice Chairman, Waqaf Board, Dr MY Qadri, District Development Commissioner, Srinagar, Baseer Ahmed Khan, Commissioner SMC, Dr. GN. Qasba, Vice Chairman SDA, Farooq Renzu, Director Tourism, Talat Parveez, Chief Engineer R&B, Mushtaq Lone, Chief Town Planner, Muneer Khan, Convener & Head State Chapter INTACH, Saleem Beig and other senior officers.
An official spokesman said “It was also decided in the meeting that the restoration work would be taken up while taking into consideration that the already existing structures as well as the material used originally does not get affected. The expert advice would be taken from the INTACH who have already been instrumental in renovating and repairing certain historical buildings as well as heritage sites in the state.”
The spokesman said that “the Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar would submit a detailed report about the restoration to be carried out within 15 days. The renovation would be done purely on the heritage pattern keeping in view the already existing material and the patterns.”
Sagar said that “we have to ensure that this historical shrine which is of prime importance historically, architecturely and religiously is properly preserved for posterity. Care should also be taken that the existing material as well as the patterns are not damaged while carrying out the proposed renovation.”
