SP College organizes extension lectures

Srinagar, June 20: Department of Botany at SP College Srinagar Wednesday organized two extension lectures.
 The lectures were delivered by Dr. Nazi. Ahmad Zeerak, professor at SKUAST Kashmir and Om  Prakash Sharma, IFS, Conservator Forests
 A college handout said Dr. Nazir spoke in detail about the vast wealth of plant diversity that J&K is bestowed with.
 “He impressed the audience with meticulously arranged information about our local heritage of plants and cautioned that if some corrective measures are not initiated at the earliest, the whole wealth of the past would be lost,” the handout read.
 It said Sharma talked about the green economy of the state and highlighted the role of plants in ecotourism and economic prosperity of the State. “Both these lectures were well taken by the audience. After the presentations a variety of questions were raised by the students,” the handout read.
 The programme started with the formal welcome address by Dr. Nazir Ahmad Gilkar, the Principal of the College. He highlighted the importance of extension lectures for the overall personality development of the students.
 Prof. Bashir Ahmad Najar, Head Department of Botany introduced the topics and elaborated the aims and objectives of extension lectures. Dr. KA Khan, Dean Academic Affairs, presented vote of thanks while Prof. Manzoor Ahmad Wani of the Department of Botany conducted the proceedings of the event.
