Goof up: 7 Haar holiday observed today
District administration under fire
Kishtwar, June 21: District administration here has come under severe criticism from the local residents for its failure to amend the holiday calendar, which had wrongly mentioned the district holiday for 7 Haar today.
The gazetted holiday is observed every year on the even of 7 Haar – the day when locals celebrate the Urs of Shah Farid-ud-Din Bagdadi (RA).
Locals here said that the Urs was celebrated yesterday and thousands of people thronged to pay their obeisance at the historic shrine but the district administration failed to wake up from its slumber and announce holiday on the even.
“The holiday was wrong mentioned for today. Being the district holiday it was upto the local administration to change the calendar and announce holiday yesterday itself”, People’s Democratic Party leader Shakir Siddiqui said.
He said that the administration was even intimated about the change of date as the 7 Har was falling of Wednesday but despite requests the office of deputy Commissioner took no steps for making the announcement at right time as a result of which people had to suffer.
