Sarai Bala complains of water shortage
Srinagar, June 22: Threatening to come out on roads, the residents of uptown Srinagar’s Sarai Bala area Friday expressed anguish over the shortage of water supply to the locality.
“For last two weeks we have not been receiving any water supply,” said a group of agitated.
“If the government does not ensure proper and regular water supply to our area, we will come on roads to protest,” said Muhammad Ibrahim of Sarai Bala.
The locals alleged the authorities were diverting water meant for supply to their area to parks and gardens in the city. “We had earlier also appealed the authorities to consider our pleas but instead of paying heed to our problems, preference is being given to irrigating gardens and parks instead of providing drinking water to people,” said a local shopkeeper.
Locals have appealed the PHE Minister Taj Mohiuddin and the local MLA Nasir Aslam Wani to look into the matter and ensure regular water supply to the locality.
