Time to act: Wazir to Dr Farooq
Status-Quo Making Cricket Suffer
JKCA MULTI-CRORE SCAM
ABID KHAN
Srinagar, June 24: The multicrore-scam beleaguered J&K Cricket Association (JKCA) Treasurer, Manzoor Wazir on Sunday said that it is the time for JKCA President Dr Farooq Abdullah to act and look towards life beyond scam.
Talking to Greater Kashmir Manzoor said, “The entire cricket developmental works have suffered since the scam broke out. It is Status quo in JKCA and we are not able to do anything. Even players are not been able to enjoy any facilities of JKCA which they deserve”.
“I am not concerned about the outcome of probe. For that law will take its own course. For me development of cricket and welfare of players is prime. In the current scenario everything is suffering,” he said.
He said that it is the time for JKCA President Dr Farooq Abdullah to act and convene working committee meeting for holding fresh elections.
“In absence of main office bearers, Dr Farooq has given me responsibility to run the affairs of the Association. However, still I feel it as my moral duty to request him to act now and save JK Cricket from more suffering. I request him to convene working committee body meeting and fix the date for new elections. Only holding of new elections is the viable solution to the fiasco that is JKCA has suffered,” JKCA treasurer said.
“Why should any body fear elections?, I am the elected office bearer and I am also ready to resign for paving way for new election. That will be service on part of Dr Farooq Abdullah towards cricket in the State and once new body will take charge everything will become normal,” he said.
About the toll that scam has took on JKCA working he said, “There is no general secretary, powers have also been taken away from Chairman, chief administrative officer is also out and President himself remain busy with his Union Ministry affairs. In their absence all the works have suffered. We are not able to take any deciosn about developmental works and also about welfare of players”.
“The national events are approaching and in absence elected body selection process can’t take place; neither financial matter can be handled,” he said.
About the development in scam probe he said, “The JKCA in-house probe committee has already submitted its report. The working committee body has got the powers to act on that. Currently I am more concerned about the cricket activities that are suffering because of Status quo. Guilty would be punished sooner or later and money would be recovered but the toll that development works and activities are taking can’t be,”
“I am glad to see Cricket players taking affairs of organising activities in their hands by organising a mega cricket event in the heart of the city. They deserve applause for it. They have showed all of us in JKCA, how work can be done,” he added.
