School Education, Health Deptt figure at top
POONCH, JUNE 25: More than 4000 posts were lying vacant in various government departments in the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch.
Official sources said that around 2707 posts were lying vacant in Poonch district, while in Rajouri the number was around 1800.
School Education Department seems to be the worst sufferer with around 757 posts lying vacant in the two districts. At least 215 gazetted and 442 non-gazetted vacancies were available in Rajouri district and 120 gazetted and 311 non-gazetted in Poonch district.
“The vacancies in the school education department was a matter of concern and government should ensure that all posts are filled up on war footing”, a local Congress leader Taj Ali said.
However, PDP leader Shamim Ganai says that the deficiency was well within the knowledge of the Chief Minister, who is presently holding the portfolio but he has turned a deaf ear towards the plights of the local population.
The Health and Medical Education Department has the second highest vacancies in the districts. Officials said that more than 710 posts have not been filed up since last more than five years. The vacancies include 38 in Gazetted cadre and 165 in non-gazetted in Poonch, while 131 gazetted and 555 non-gazetted vacancies in Rajouri district.
“The vacancies in the health and medical education department in the twin border district is testimony of the government seriousness about upgrading health infrastructure and facilities in the rural and far flung areas”, Shehzad Khan of Peoples Democratic Party. His friend and colleague Tazeem Dar said, “The health minister in the state is more concerned about his own constituency and the twin capital cities, where excess staff was being posted to please the political higher-up”.
The condition in Power Development Department is no different as well. There were around 290 posts lying vacant in the twin districts.
The official data revealed that 4 gazetted and 139 gazetted posts were lying vacant in the department in Rajouri district, while in Poonch the department has 5 vacancies in gazetted cadre and 92 in non-gazetted cadre.
The data further revealed that in total 260 gazetted, 1202 non-gazetted and 333 Class-IV posts were vacant in Rajouri district, while in Poonch the government has 426 vacancies in gazetted and 1805 posts in non-gazetted cadre.
