Army orders inquiry against Major General in corruption case
Jammu, June 25: Army has ordered a Court of Inquiry (CoI) into allegations of bribery against senior army officer Major General V K Sharma at the Northern Command headquarters in Jammu and Kashmir.
"A departmental Court of Inquiry (CoI) has been ordered into allegations of financial impropriety in a contract case against Maj Gen V K Sharma," an army officer said. He has, however, neither been arrested nor detained, the officer said.
There were allegations by a supplier against the Army Service Corps (ASC) Gen Sharma for financial impropriety in an AC contract case, he said. The ASC is meant for all type of supplies, food and other items to troops of Northern Command, including the Siachen Glacier sector.
Just recently, in another case, the Army had ordered a court of inquiry on allegations, levelled against a brigadier posted in New Delhi, that he had not returned money borrowed from his subordinates when on a previous posting in the north-east.
In the past few years, several senior Army officers have faced serious allegations of corruption ranging from alleged irregularities in the procurement of dry rations, operation of a meat contract, and sale of liquor and were also indicted by Courts of Inquiry earlier in these cases.
