Fixation of HSRP to commence today

RANJANA CHARAK

JAMMU, JUNE 25: Three weeks after the High Security Registration Plates scheme was implemented in Jammu and Kashmir, the authorities plan to make functional more ‘Fixing Stations’ for fitting of the plates at all the 10 districts of Jammu region, from tomorrow.
Till now, Regional Transport Offices at the twin capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar were working as the Fixing Station in the state for fixing the `temper proof’ registration plates.
The new centres, official sources said, will be made operational from tomorrow at all the Assistant Regional Transport Offices (ARTOs) across the region.
The Transport department has given the authorisation to start these centers to Real Majon India Limited and only fitting of plates will take place at these Stations, official sources said adding that the plates will be manufactured by the company at its production unit.
Regional Transport Officer Jammu, Virender Singh Slathia told Greater Kashmir that the HSRP will be mandatory for all new and old vehicles and the scheme was being implemented in phased manner.
In the first phase the department will announce the series of registration numbers of old vehicles which will be required to get the HSRP fixed on the vehicles. The series in every district will be different and notified, he said.
At present in Jammu district old vehicles of JKO2AV series and new vehicles of JKO2AW series were being installed with high security Plates, while in Kathua district JKO28B series for old vehicles and JKO2C for new vehicles were getting the new plates.
Rate list for the installation of HSR plates for various vehicles will be displayed at various HSR Plate Fixation Stations to avoid any kind of convenience for the public, the officials said.
The Minister for Transport, Qamar Ali Akhoon had recently said that that HSRP will be fitted on about 13 lakh registered commercial and non-commercial vehicles in the state.
The system would help check menace of fake and fancy number plates and curb the theft of vehicles to a large extent, he had said adding that in pursuance of the orders of Supreme Court, HSRP system is mandatory, and following the instructions, the State Government after tendering on national level, awarded the contract to Real Mazon Company.
He had also informed that the rate fixed for every Light or Heavy Vehicle was Rs 401 per plate.
