Minor Killed, Another Battling For Life
Rajouri, June 26: In a tragic incident a minor was killed while his sister was battling for life after being attacked by a leopard in Gambhir Muglan area of this border district, early on Tuesday morning.
Locals said that a woman along with her two minor children was going to fetch water from a local spring at Tarkhana village when they were attacked by the wild beast, this morning.
“The family tried to flee from the spot in order to save themselves but was mulled by the leopard”, they said adding that hearing the cries some passerby rushed to their rescue.
The woman Zahida Begum and her daughter Ishrat Kousar were critically injured in the attack but her son Faizan Ahmed died on the spot, they added.
The injured woman and her daughter were rushed to District Hospital Rajouri, from where Ishrat was referred to Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu in critical condition.
Locals alleged that this is around sixth incident in the same village and despite repeated requests the wildlife department failed to come to their rescue.
Divisional Forest Officer Dr Satil Kumar said that he was on way to the village to ascertain the situation in order to plan strategy to deal with the wild beast. He said that the department will sanction Rs 1 lakh in favour of the family for the loss.
