Separatists placed under house arrest
Srinagar, June 26: Separatist leaders Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Shabir Ahmad Shah, Bilal Gani Lone, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Javaid Ahmad Mir, Zafar Akbar Bhat and others remained under house arrest on Tuesday.
Various separatist leaders and organizations have condemned the house arrest of leaders, calling it an attack on the individual freedom.
Meanwhile, Muttahida Ullema Ahl-e-Sunnat (MUAS) castigated the government for not allowing it to take out a procession on Tuesday from Dastgeer Sahab (RA) Saraibala and “arresting its members.”
“Police prevented our leaders and workers, including Moulana Abdul Rasheed Dawoodi, to come out of their houses,” a MUAS spokesman said in a statement.
The MUAS reiterated its demand to include Ulema and members of civil society into the probe ordered by the government to ascertain the cause of blaze that gutted Dastgeer Sahib (RA) shrine on Monday.
Terming the gutting of the shrine a conspiracy the spokesman said: “There are some elements who want to prove that fire was caused due to short circuit but there was no electricity on the morning of June 25.”
