No let up in restrictions today

Srinagar, June 28: The state government has decided not to allow ‘Khanyar chalo’ march called by Grand Mufti of Kashmir, Mufti Bashir-u-din, on Friday to mourn the gutting of Dastgeer Sahab (RA) Shrine.
“The restrictions will continue,” District Magistrate Srinagar Baseer Ahmad Khan told Greater Kashmir, adding “Nobody would be allowed to take law in their own hands.”
Sources said that in view of the call for the march, a high-level meeting was convened Thursday evening here. “It was decided that nobody would be allowed to march towards Khanyar,” sources said adding the curfew in old Srinagar will remain in force. “In rest of Srinagar, Section 144 will remain in force. The movement of people would be monitored closely to thwart any protest demonstrations,” sources added.
During the meeting, it was also decided that high security arrangements would be put in place in every district to thwart any march.
Grand Mufti Wednesday appealed people to join Friday’s Khanyar chalo with religious fervor. He appealed them to defy the government restrictions. “I know there would be more restrictions, but I appeal people to defy the restrictions and reach the venue,” Mufti said. His call has been supported by Er Hilal Ahmad War of Peoples Political Party (PPP).
