2 arrested for Sopore grenade blast: Police

Srinagar, June 2: Police Saturday claimed to have arrested two youth of Sopore for allegedly hurling a grenade at police station in the area last month.
The grenade blast had left 14 persons injured, including 10 civilians. Police sources said Ishfaq Shafi of Jamia Qadeem and Saleem Mushtaq of Sheikh Sahib Sopore were arrested on charges of “hurling the grenade at the behest of Hizbul Mujahideen.”
“During the sustained interrogation of the duo, it was found that a Hizb militant handed over the grenade to them and they hurled it on the police station,” a senior police officer claimed. “A day before the incident a Hizb militant was at the residence of Shafi.”
The officer said thereafter Shafi along with Saleem “jointly lobbed the grenade on the police station next morning injuring four policemen and six civilians.”
“The arrests were made on the basis of testimony of eyewitnesses. The duo were identified by eyewitnesses and were subsequently arrested by us,” the officer claimed.
