KU addressing ‘accommodation crunch’
Srinagar, June 2: With the establishment of new Girls Hostel on the campus, the University of Kashmir has addressed the “accommodation crunch” to a great extent.
According to observers, the University would always feel it difficult to accommodate a large number of students, who would seek hostel accommodation in the campus.
Due to the paucity of space, the leftover students would often get themselves accommodated in rented accommodations in the campus vicinity. This, however, would raise concerns among stakeholders, who urged the University authorities to address the “accommodation crunch” by establishing more hostels.
While students and parents have hailed the establishment of new Girls Hostel, they expect the proposed Boys Hostel to come up soon. “We are in the process of addressing accommodation crunch and the establishment of 296-bedded Girls hostel is a first step in that direction,” said a University officer. “We are committed to create infrastructure which shall go a long way in helping the student community to pursue higher education in the hassle-free manner.”
