AJKKU demands relief package

JAMMU, JUNE 3: All Jammu and Kashmir Kissan Union (AJKKU) today staged a massive dharna at Sunderbani Rajouri demanding Rs. 500 Crore relief package for drought hit areas of Jammu region.
 Large number of farmers, under the leadership of Union Chairman   Ashok Sharma   assembled at tehsil headquarters Sunderbani and staged dharna to press for their demands.
 Addressing the gathering Sharma said, “ The government should formulate a comprehensive farm policy for the state so that the losses caused to standing crops, orchards and livestock due to drought, excessive rains, floods, hail storm and various other natural calamities are compensated.”
 Referring to long dry spell that prevailed in Jammu province during last two months and for delay in release of water in the irrigation canals, Sharma demanded a special package of Rs. 500 Crore  to compensate the farmers. Union leaders also demanded six month free ration and power supply to all   affected farmers of Jammu region and free seeds, fertilizers, and other agriculture implements for coming Kharief crop.
