Bridge location

This refers to the location of Teedah Bridge on river Jehlum near GPO.The bridge is in fact part of the Circular Road, providing a free flow of traffic especially from Sheri Khas towards the left bank of Jhelum. The original site was between the JK Bank (then Grindlays) and Mughal Darbar restaurant. Part of the right abutment was constructed in 1984  but abandoned due to resistance from many quarters. An alternative Abdullah Bridge was  onstructed, which did not serve the purpose as the traffic destined for the bank has to merge with the main traffic on M.A. Road and take a detour via a number of crossings enroute. The best location of the bridge is the original site to avoid a skew (Teedah) alignment with a fly over/underpass in Pologround. The road near the Presentation Convent can be widened, providing a side road for the school. The walkway on the right bund has been already vandalised. Consultations with the civil society, especially with the engineers who were involved with the original proposal, should be held
to work out a better solution.
