Disengaged SPOs to go on hunger strike
JAMMU, JUNE 5: Miffed over the indifferent attitude of top political brass and higher police officials, disengaged Special Police Officers of Ramnagar area in Udhampur district have threatened to go on indefinite hunger strike from June, 19.
A meeting of leaders of various political parties, intellectuals, teachers, businessmen, Self Help Groups, NGOs was held under the chairmanship of RS Pathania, general secretary of Pradesh Youth Congress today.
Pathania said that the government was deliberately ignoring the demands of disengaged SPOs from Ramnagar who have lost their lives and limbs while fighting militancy. “The SPO’s were demanding decent wages but were being silenced by disengagement orders and criminal cases against them” he lamented.
The Congress leader appealed state government to reinstate the disengaged SPO’s and withdraw criminal cases lodged against them.
He also demanded regularization of SPO’s, enhancement of daily wage, suitable ex-gratia and permanent jobs to the kins of SPOs who died while fighting militancy.
