Infant's death sparks protest
POONCH, JUNE 5: Death of an infant sparked off protests in Mandi area of this border district on Tuesday.
Reports reaching here revealed that wife of a local Sarpanch Jamal Din gave birth to a dead baby but the relatives and family members accused the doctors at Sub District Hospital Mandi of negligence.
The family members assembled outside the hospital and staged a noisy protest demonstration demanding action against the “erring doctors”.
The protestors were soon joined by the local traders and some political workers who raised anti-government and anti-administration slogans. The protestors were pacified only when some senior officers from the district administration reached the spot and assured that the matter will be probed.
However, a doctor Vikram Mahanjan, said that the baby died before his birth in the mother’s womb. “The family was informed about the fact at the time when the woman was brought to the hospital and her ultrasound was conducted”, he said adding that there was no question of any negligence when the baby had died in the mother’s womb.
