Srinagar, June 6: In a unique way to protest the death of more than 480 infants in GB Pant hospital, students of various schools at Batamaloo in collaboration with Social Reform Organization (SRO) – an NGO on Wednesday organized protest rally under the banner - “We Protest Innocent Killings at GB Pant Hospital.”
More than 300 students of local schools participated in the rally, which passed through interiors of Batamaloo shouting slogans against the administration for the deteriorating healthcare in the Valley in general and GB Pant hospital in particular.
Shouting slogans “We protest against the killings in GB Pant hospital”, young boys and girls marched through the interior lanes of Batamaloo, holding attention of the passers-bye.
“We are protesting against the negligence of medicos and lack of facilities in the hospital, which led to the death of more than 480 infants. It is a gross human rights violation that infants are dying due to lack of proper medicare facilities. We as a society need to wake up from slumber and do something to save our younger generation,” head of SRO, Javid Ahmad told Greater Kashmir.
With around 900 infant death last year, an alarming 1400 kids have died at the dreaded GB Pant hospital during the past 17 months.
“We want the government to put the medicos responsible for these killings behind the bars. Government should upgrade healthcare facilities not only at GB Pant, but also in other hospitals as well,” he said.
“It is our moral responsibility to protest against death of innocent infants, who died because they could not get treatment and  proper care on time,” students said adding that they wont watch the deaths of infants as mute spectator  and will continue their peaceful protests through different means till government initiates action in this matter.
“It is shame on the part of government that so many infants have died in the hospital and it shows that quality of healthcare in our state is very poor. We appeal to government that they should upgrade healthcare facilities and make doctors accountable,” Asif Ahmad, a student said.
Even locals of the area joined the protest rally and expressed their moral support to students who had organized this rally.
“It is a lesson for us that these students have come forward and protested against the mismanagement of government, we should not shy away from our moral responsibilities, we should come forward and peacefully protest against the negligence of medicos and ail healthcare prevalent in the valley,” said Mubashir Ahmad, a local resident.
