JK to get high security registration plate system this month

Srinagar, June 7: Here is some good news for the vehicle owners in J&K. The much-awaited High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) System aimed to curtail theft and misuse of vehicles besides bringing efficiency in the traffic system, shall be introduced this month in the state.
This was disclosed by the Minister while reviewing the functioning of transport department at an officers meeting here today.
Principal Secretary, Transport, Sudhanshu Panday, Transport Commissioner, Meraj Ahmad Kakroo, Director State Motor Garages, G N Sofi, Managing Director, STRC, Tandan, RTO, Kashmir, Anees Ahmad besides district officers of the department were present on the occasion.
Akhoon asked the officers to make accountability and transparency more effective in their respective units and ensure that public grievances are addressed quickly, an official statement said.
He directed them to speed up the computerization process of the records and ensure that the work is completed as per the schedule.
Akhoon asked officers for carrying out regular checks of the vehicles so that loading, rash driving, wrong-lane and teenage driving “which are the main causes of the accidents” can be stopped. The minister directed for bringing about traffic discipline in the State.
He asked the officers to organize public awareness camps on district headquarters to sensitize people about the benefits of abiding traffic laws and repercussion of its violations.
The Minister asked MD, STRC to work and improve the functioning of the corporation. He asked him to get all condemned vehicles auctioned immediately after declaring them un-serviceable.
