Scientific spirit
This refers to the scholarly lecture on Islam and modern age delivered by Moulana Sajad Noumani, an orator of international stature.
Why study sciences in the light of Quran only? Why not in the light of other scriptures? The gifted orator gave an eloquent account by successfully pointing towards the indifference of non-Islamic ideologies towards the scientific endeavors. He pointed towards the European scientists who not only broke the chains of intellectual stagnation and boldly refuted the ecclesiastical theories, which were based on preposterous evidences, but also proclaimed the results of their own investigations. Making his argument simpler for a common man to understand, the calm speaker pointed towards Galileo and other scientists of no less worth, who were punished till they died in prisons for having held a view, contrary to the scriptures, that the Earth moved around the sun! In fact Islam never ever subscribes to this notion. Islam always urges a man to use his mind for understanding the truth. It doesn’t teach self abnegation and withdrawal from the world. Quran says: “Do they not look at the sky, how it is raised high? And at the mountains, how they are fixed firm? And at the earth, how it is spread out?” These Quranic exhortations have culminated in the birth of modern sciences.
