Check import of spurious fertilizers: Left
Srinagar, June 8: Expressing grave concern over “unchecked import of spurious fertilizers” in J&K, state secretary, CPI (M) and MLA , Kulgam , M Y Tarigami has sought prompt action from the government to check the menace .
He said farmers have been suffering from the vagaries of weather and the supply of spurious fertilizers is like rubbing salt on their wounds.
While urging to come to the rescue of poor farmers, Tarigami has demanded introduction of free crop insurance scheme for the farmers.
Referring to the media reports and complaints made by the affected farmers about pumping in of spurious agriculture inputs, Tarigami said lackadaisical response of the concerned agencies was shocking and disheartening.
Quoting media reports, Tarigami said that the fertilizer companies in a bid to cover up their “sin”, have agreed to reimburse the money spend on fertilizers on old rates, but who will compensate the colossal losses suffered by the farmers in terms of crop and time loss in one season.
