Srinagar Book Fair to conclude on June 10
Srinagar, June 8: The Srinagar Book Fair which is currently underway at S P College, here has remained a hub of activities for the literary people and all book lovers from across the Valley since its inauguration. The 9-day event was inaugurated by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on June 2 in presence of large number of intellectuals, politicians, teachers and students, an official spokesman said.
He said the Book Fair has been organized by the National Book Trust of India, which is an autonomous organization of Human Resource Development, Government of India with an objective to create interest amongst the people, especially the youth to study books on different subjects of their choice and enrich their knowledge. The trust has made an earnest effort to promote books of the national, international interests and wide ranging of topics which is difficult for the readers to find such books in the market. They have exhibited thousands of books on different subjects/topics for the readers.
The event has proved very useful for the intellectuals, scholars, students, teachers as they have been able to purchase books of their likings. Thousands of book lovers have visited the event during all these days and appreciated the endeavor of the organizers and expressed desire that such events should be held regularly in the Valley for the facilities of people of Valley.
The Fair, he said, would continue till June 10 (Sunday) evening for the people. The book lovers can take advantage of the opportunity made available by the National Book Trust of India. The organizers have also arranged a Mehfil-e-Gazal, a seminar on Saadat Hasan Manto and a Writers Meet in collaboration with Academy of Art, Culture & Language and Sahitya Akademy, New Delhi on June 9 at 3 pm in the S P College to make the event memorable.
