SHOPKEEPERS PROTEST IN GUND

Ganderbal, Mar 11: The traders of Gund town in Kangan area of Ganderbal district Sunday observed a complete shutdown against continuous burglaries in the area.
All the shops and other business establishment remained closed with shopkeepers holding peaceful demonstration in main market Gund. They demanded immediate action by police.
They said provision store of one Bashir Ahmad Kaloo was looted by burglars during the intervening night of March 10-11.
“This is the fourth incident of its kind in the Gund market from the last two months. Earlier thieves had broken into the shop of Arshid Ahmad Sheikh last month and decamped with cash of Rs 20,000 and goods worth thousands of rupees,” said Khursheed Ahmad a local shopkeeper.
Later the SDPO Kangan, Amit Verma rushed to the area and assured the protesters of speedy action. He directed the Station House Officer Gund to keep a naka during the night in Gund market.
