Jammu, Mar 14: State Legislative Council on Wednesday admitted a Privilege Motion against Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) MLC Murtaza Khan for dragging the name of Union Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah in the multi crore Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) scam.
As the proceedings of the Upper House began this morning National Conference MLC and Chief Minister’s Political Advisor, Devender Singh Rana raised the issue of the Privilege Motion brought by him against Murtaza Khan for dragging the name of Dr Farooq Abdullah in the JKCA scam.
Rana on Tuesday had said that dragging a name of a person, who is not a member of theHouse and is unable to defend himself, amounts to breach of privilege.
He also referred to the rule 190 of rule book for LC proceedings and urged Legislative Council Chairman Amrit Malhotra to announce the decision over the issue.
Malhotra asked Rana whether he still insisted on the Privilege Motion, Rana replied in the affirmative. Following which the Chairman admitted it and referred it to the privilege committee.
Malhotra also directed the Secretary LC to expunge the words used against Union Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah by PDP MLC on Tuesday from the LC proceedings.
While talking to the Greater Kashmir, Murtaza Khan said that he did not commit any wrong amounting to breach of privilege of house or a member. “I just highlighted the large scale corruption in JKCA and involvement of its president Dr Farooq Abdullah.”
Khan also raised the issue of a privilege motion against Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Sagar for giving a wrong reply to his question and allegedly misleading the house.
The Chairman assured PDP MLC that decision on it will be taken up after studying it.
