Forest, Police qualify for semis

Srinagar, Mar 15: Forest-XI started their campaign with the hard-fought win over Sainik College Jammu while JK Police-XI humbled JK Bank Academy 3-0 in quarterfinal matches of 2nd Rajiv Gandhi Gold Cup football tournament at GGM Science College ground Jammu on Thursday.
 In first match Forest-XI defeated Sainik College 2-1 while in second match JK Police thrashed JK Bank Academy 3-0.
 Playing its first match of the event owing to the direct entry into the quarterfinal stage, Forest-XI were shocked early as Ishant scored a goal within first three minutes of the game for Sainik College.
 However, it proved early wake up call for Forest-XI that is known for playing free flowing attacking game. The team responded with equaliser only after 10 minutes through Waseem Yousuf’s strike in 13th minute.
 After continuous attacks, Sainik College shifted to defensive play and were able to hold Forest for 1-1 first half draw.
 In second half, Forest players were more aggressive and went on to all out attack. However, they were not able to find the target and wasted couple of close chances. When it was looking that the match will turn out as 1-1 draw, Waseem Yousuf again scored winner just three minutes before the final whistle.
 In the second quarterfinal, Police thrashed Bank side 3-0. In 38th minute of the game, Zahid scored first goal. At half time score was 1-0 in favour of Police.
 In second half Police scored two more goals. Yaseen scored second goal in 55th minute while Sandeep made it 3-0 in 65th minute. JK Bank tried hard to come back but were not able to break into Police defenses. Eventually Police won match by 3-0 and booked place in the semi-final.
 On Friday, in first semi-final, JK Bank will lock horns with PAP Jallandhar while in second semifinal on Saturday Forest-XI will clash with JK Police-XI.
