Asks SMC to complete Lepers Colony work in 2 months, says Habitat Centre to be inaugurated in April

Srinagar, Mar 1: Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand on Thursday toured Srinagar during his visit to the summer Capital even as he set deadlines for completion of some prestigious projects including the much awaited houses for lepers.
 An official handout said he inspected ongoing works in world famous Dal Lake and visited newly constructed Lepers Colony at Bahrar asking the concerned to complete the work in two months.
 As about the under construction Habitat Centre at Bemina, Tara said the facility would be inaugurated next month.
 The Deputy Chief Minister was accompanied by Commissioner, SMC, Dr GN Qasba, Director Information, Khawaja Farooq RenzuShah, Vice Chairman, LAWDA, Irfan Yaseen, Director Local Bodies, Shamim Ahmad Leharwal, Chief Engineer UEED, Naresh Kumar and concerned officers.
 “The Deputy Chief Minister while inspecting ongoing work at Habitat Centre at Bemina directed the executing agency to complete all the works on Habitat Centre to make it ready for commissioning by next month,” an official handout said.
 Tara was informed that Rs 10.80 crore are being expended on the project.
 He was also informed that Bahrar Lepers Colony project is at finishing stage. “The Deputy Chief Minister interacted with Lepers who are residing in old hutments and dilapidated dwelling in Bahrar.”
 “He directed Dr Qasba to ensure completion of new residential units for them within two months, so that lepers are shifted to these newly constructed units and provided all kinds of facilities,” the official handout added. Tara distributed fruits and blankets among the lepers on the occasion.
 While inspecting ongoing works in world famous Dal Lake, the Deputy Chief Minister reiterated his commitment of restoring the past glory of Dal Lake.
 The official handout said: “Vice Chairman, LAWDA, Irfan Yasin informed Deputy Chief Minister that environment clearance is in process for Rakh-e-Arth where 10,600 families of Dal Lake are being shifted.”
 Earlier, Tara Chand inspected government Guest House at Rawalpora and took round of the various rooms of the guest house. He was informed that guest house has generated revenue of Rs. 60,000 during last fiscal.
