Omar sabotaged AFSPA revocation: Mehbooba

GK NEWS NETWORK

Jammu, Mar 1: Leader of the Opposition and Peoples Democratic Party president (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti today accused the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of sabotaging the proposal of partially revoking the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from Jammu and Kashmir.
Mehbooba alleged the only intention of the Chief Minister was to divert attention of masses from the murder of National Conference worker Haji Yusuf and failure to deal with corruption, which has been institutionalized under the NC led government.
“His only intention was to divert attention of people from the charges against him. Chief Minister is head of Unified Command, he could have easily taken decision on the issue, if he would have been serious”, Omar said.
On charges leveled by Chief Minister during his speech in Legislative Assembly that PDP had sabotaged the proposal, Mehbooba said, “Only a weak person will say this not a Chief Minister who thinks that opposition will derail any major proposal brought by the government”, he said.
“Are we so powerful that CM of the state is feeling so weak to take a major policy decision. Nobody can take this point”, she said.
The PDP president said the revocation of AFSPA is a major issue before Jammu and Kashmir and even the Working Groups constituted by central government had sent positive signal about its removal. “Even the interlocutors appointed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had expressed their view about softening or revoking the act, which gives sweeping powers to the armed forces”, she said.
