‘Enact legislation for maintenance of senior citizens’

Jammu, Mar 20: All Jammu and Kashmir Pensioners Senior Citizens Welfare Association has demanded enactment of legislation for maintenance and welfare of parents and senior citizens in the State on the pattern of central government.
In a statement, the Forum today observed that the Ministry of Justice and Empowerment, Government of India has passed legislation on the matter in 2007 “But till date the State Government has not considered the issue for some unknown reasons,” the statement said.
The Association also demanded enhancement in regular pension on the pattern of Punjab from 70 years to 100 years of age, issuance of senior citizen identity cards and construction of senior citizen hostels in Jammu, Srinagar, Leh and Delhi.
State President of the Association, Sampat Prakash, assured the pensioners that all their genuine and legitimate demands will be take up with the Government.
