Div Com initiates reward for successful plantation

Srinagar, Mar 24: In a bid to give fillip to the plantation drive across Kashmir, the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon has initiated cash reward of Rs 50,000 for any educational institute that has highest number of successful plantations.
 The Divisional Commissioner made the announcement during a plantation drive at Government Girls Higher Secondary School Amira Kadal.
 The second prize would be Rs 30,000 and third prize Rs 20,000. The reward would be paid in cash alongwith citation in next spring. The reward would be based on the number of saplings planted and which would still be existing at the time of the assessment.
 This initiative is expected to give fillip to the plantation drive and ensure that the plants survive, an official spokesman said.
 Dr Samoon also announced that keeping in view the space constraint at Amirakadal School the reconstruction of the school building would be taken up with the Government so that a multi- storied complex is constructed there.
 The plantation drive was organised by the DFO Urban Forestry Division Srinagar. Among others who were present on the occasion included DFO Srinagar Syed Abid Nazir, Principal Mrs. Nayeema, Joint Director Education GM Dar, Deputy Controller Civil Defence Rafiq Ahmed.
 Divisional Commissioner alongwith Additional Commissioners Abdul Majid Mir and Abdul Majid Wani and AC Central Mir Tasaduq Hussain, Aamir Ali, OSD and others planted fruit trees and Chinar in the Divisional Commissioner office complex.
 Dr Samoon urged that everyone should adopt a tree and gave a slogan ‘Each 1, plant 10’.
 He also visited Royal Spring Golf Course Cheshmashahi and planted pine and chinar trees in presence of Director Tourism Department, Farooq Ahmed Shah and DFO Social Foresty Abdul Hamid alongwith the staff of Golf Course.
 On the occasion, Farooq Shah informed that 1,000 chinar and 1500 fruit trees have been planted in the Golf Course.
