New Delhi, Mar 26: Acting on the recommendations of C Rangarajan committee set up by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to address unemployment in J&K Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Monday launched a website Udaan.
 The website of the Special Industry Initiative for J&K (SII J&K) Udaan would provide skills and enhance employability of the state youth.
 Speaking on the occasion Chidambaram said the eight corporate companies have already entered into an agreement with National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) for providing employment oriented training to 8290 youth and with a total target of covering 40,000 qualified youngsters. The training will be provided over a period of five years covering various sectors like business management, software, BPO etc.
 He said the Centre and State government were committed to increase the opportunities and employability of the youth of the state.
 Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who was also present on the occasion welcomed the initiative saying this project is being implemented by NSDC in partnership with corporates and the youth of state.
 He described Udaan as an important initiative to deal with unemployment of educated youth in the state and assured his government’s fullest support for the success of this programme.
 He said the state possesses rich talent pool and the need of the hour is to enhance the skill and employability of the educated youth to make them relevant and capable of receiving jobs in the national job market. Referring to various steps taken by his government to tackle unemployment, he said that the Corporate sector should contribute positively and willingly to expand the employment market for the educated youth.
 Earlier, Home Secretary, R K Singh said the website has been created with three objectives: To enable a greater number of JK youth to view and register easily for the training and employment opportunities under Udaan, to allow partner corporates to reach out to a larger talent pool in J&K and effectively shortlist candidates for their projects and to assist NSDC in effectively monitoring the implementation of Udaan projects by partner corporates.
 The new website has been especially designed by NSDC where candidates can get complete information and register themselves on line.
 Three MoUs were also signed on the occasion between Dilip Chenoy, Managing Director & CEO, NSDC and  Ajai Choudhary, Chairman, HCL Infosystems Ltd.,  Partha Sarathi Guha Patra, Vice President and Head Corporate Affairs, Wipro (BPO),  Goutam Roy, Chief Operating Officer, Future Group to implement the Udaan scheme in accordance with the guidelines.
 The Scheme is being implemented by NSDC and the corporate sector in PPP mode. It covers graduates, post graduates and professional degree holders. As per the scheme, the identified companies would screen and select students from the state. The duration, place and nature of training would be decided by the company after considering the profile of the candidates and their skill gap. After completion of the training, the company will take necessary measures for placement of the trainees in association with NSDC.
 Government of India will bear the expenditure on travel from J&K to training destination, boarding and lodging, stipend and placement fee in respect of trainees. Corporate will bear the cost of training. In case the trainee is employed by the same corporate for minimum one year, 50% of the training cost or Rs.62,500/- whichever is less will be reimbursed to the corporate.
 The total budget of the Scheme is Rs. 1000.00 crore to be spent in five years.
 First batch of 30 students has already been trained by CII. The candidates underwent a 6 week training programme from 21 November to 30 December 2011 at the CII Naoroji Godrej Centre of Excellence at Mumbai. Proposals of many leading corporates are in pipeline, a Home Ministry spokesperson said.
 Giving details of the proposals received from the eight companies, the spokesperson said that future group will train and absorb 1150 candidates in retail sector while CII will employ 1000 youth in managerial and entrepreneurship skill departments.
 The TCS has offered to provide the same facility to 850 candidates in IT and BPOs while WIPRO will train and employ 4390 candidates in international voice and non voice customer services, back office transaction processing and domestic voice customer services. These placements will take over a period of five years.
 Similarly, HCL Infosystems will absorb 400 candidates in one year in sales and ICT infrastructure maintenance management and Infosys Limited 100 candidates in IT sector in one year.
 In the same period Rai Foundation will also absorb 100 candidates in IT, ITES, Retail Management, Hospitality, Tourism, Real Estate, Media, Entertainment, Textile and Education fields. ISDS will absorb 300 candidates in one year in the field of computerized numerical control machine operations and programmes and techno-commercial programmes.
