Minister’s nephew arrested in Ladoora

Srinagar, Mar  26: Barely two days after Jammu and Kashmir police arrested Tourism Minister’s son for thrashing a couple, another Minister’s  nephew has been held on the alleged charges of misbehaving with the girls in his native village in north Kashmir.
The latest arrest comes after two daughters of Ghulam Nabi lodged a complaint in police station Sopore, alleging  that Gowher, nephew of Minister of State for Roads and Buildings, Javaid Ahmad Dar, had misbehaved with them when they were returning from their college on Saturday
“We have arrested Gowher on the complaint filed by the girls. An FIR No 80 under section 294 RPC stands registered against him,” a police official said.
Pertinently, massive protests had erupted in Ladoora on Saturday evening with people demanding action against Gowher for allegedly misbehaving with the sisters. The protesters turned violent and torched shop of kin of Dar at Main Chowk Ladoora. The fire also spread to other shops, rendering them to ashes.
“We have also registered an FIR on the complaint filed against Mir and his relatives for torching the shop and two persons have been arrested in this connection,” the police official added.
The family of the Mir is also seeking impartial investigation in death of their son, Muhammad Yasin Mir, who died under mysterious circumstances last year.
Death of Yasin had triggered massive protests in the area with his family alleging cover-up.
This is the second incident in the past one week where a JK minister’s relative has been arrested for violating law.
On Saturday, son of Tourism Minister Nawang Rigzin Jora was arrested along with his friend for allegedly thrashing a shopkeeper in Leh town of frontier region of Ladakh.
